ON THE MOVE PACKING FINALLY

It has been a very busy time and I have found a minute to catch up on my packing list. I ended up with about 100 boxes. The trick to packing is sort before it goes in but if your not sure you can do a trick buy packing up the things you use all the time and what is left is marked misc. which means for me I need to go through it and if it fits in the new house than put it away if not "good will " it go to...

Here is a good tip for lamps!

I liked how the lamps went this trip I had a tall box an each lamp was wrapped in paper or what ever you have on hand than set in the box. Many lamps made it in one box. Well that is the end of packing next time will be loading the truck.. Merry Christmas Eve

ON THE MOVE: one step at a time

As I have been working on packing my house to move , there have been many steps. All the sorting seems to never end. We have not sold the house yet that has been the main problem in that I need to keep some things out to live but at the same time I need to just get moved. 

In this case if you have ever been in this same situation, I think the best thing to do is to pack for a long trip ( with a little extra clothes) than pack the rest and live with the bare essentials . What you want sold just sell,what you want to give away just do it. Throw away what you want to. It's hard but it is best in the end. Trusting my house sells very soon. 

ON THE MOVE : Spacing be aware !!!!

Hi again ! 

It has been a busy time with sorting and clearing out things that I like an wanted to move but don't have the space for..... This is hard as its good stuff but when you move what worked in one space may not in another home. No matter how you try it won't fit. 

I had to lose my out door furniture because of this reason. I held out till this week. But had to put every thing on the chopping block finally. Same with my big bulky living room set.

Ways to know you should not move some thing. 

1. measure the new space, if it's smaller than the old space " the item will NOT fit" 

no amount of I'll  find a place for it will work. Sell or give it away.

2. style  I've been in warmer climate And colder climate..let's face it they are totally different. big and bold and boxy will look out of place in a open airy room. Don't keep a peice that doesn't fit the style of the new house no matter how much you like it. Pass it on to some one who loves the piece as much as you do it will get used an you know it went to a good home. 

3. Junk look around some stuff needs to be retired. So recycling is a good way to get some cash an keep stuff out of the land fill. Check your local area for locations you can take your junk to. 

This list is end less but I think you get the idea know what you have, know what you are going too. Than make smart choices as to what you should move and not move. 

For those of you counting with me we are at 50 boxes and counting ; no where near done but now that the must move and must get rid of is finally sorted out time to move forward with the packing.

On the move: Pictures

As I go from room to room some days it seems like best to just sell it all and start fresh.. In some rooms I will be doing that in. BUT pictures that's another story. I try not to look at them when I pack. Yes even " Get organized with Kim " does not look at pictures to sort them. I don't because packing up a house takes time. Some times your not in a rush and can go through your things at your leasuer and other times it a move you really just need to get it packed up and moved out. I want to just get it moved. I got  stoped by my wedding album though, I have not looked at in a while so I sat and took the  time to walk down memory lane. Ok that's my point. In a move time is organized too. If you have the time to sort through the photos by all means go ahead and get rid of the ones you don't want. But for the most part I have not met to many people that want to throw photos a way. So unless they are some one else's photos, save your self time and just pack them up for now save looking at them for later with family to make new memories laughing an remembering! when packing photos pack like things together,by that I mean put picture in frames of similar shape and size together in a clean fresh box. Pack with baby blankets or towels. They keep the glass protected an its a clean useful packing material that you just fold up and put away at the other end of the move. Lose pictures pack together as they will not damage each other if layered. Remember that old box of photos at grandmas house or any ones house? Well for some reason as long as you don't mistreat the box your photos should be ok. Again pack them in a clean fresh box. Save that old box for shoes. Humm guess I should head to the next closet with the shoes in it. Two more boxes packed. 7 all total for today. 

ON THE MOVE : back saver tip

As a person who likes to move stuff around a lot I have mover pads in all shapes and sizes. 

Today I found that I can get the heavier boxes moved with out having to wait on someone stronger. 

You just tilt the box to one side slide in two movers let the box down on the movers and you can 

Slide your box to where you want it. 

Two more boxes packed. I think I'll take a lunch break. 

On the move:Ten boxes and counting

With the books starting to find their way into boxes I can see my book shelves now. Maybe the people wanting to buy my house can see them now. Next on my to do list is declutter the closets.. 

I need some pick me up to day the gray sky seems to sap my energy. Even though a rainy day is a good day for inside packing. 

Repeating the process sort out the stuff to keep, get rid of , give away!  Here I go 7 closets to clean out. They are not that full I just need to get up and do it.

On the move : BOOKS !!!

Well I have gotten started and even up to three boxes. Today I hope to get some books in to boxes.  I use to find the biggest box and try to fit all my books in to it. My movers where never happy with me. So I've learned a small box is better. Makes every one happy. 

Organization tip on books : don't use big boxes they will get heavy real fast. Small sturdy boxes that are ment for books from your mover or ones that had heavy cleaning products in them from a local stores will be better. I better get started I have a lot of books.. Got the small boxes. Check! Here are some of the books to pack . Check! Now I'm ready to go. Off for some more packing .

On the move : Box 1

When you have a whole house to pack it can be a daunting task. No different for me. There are two ways to look at it tackle the smallest room and get it done quickly or tackle the hardest room and know the rest will get easier. Today I'm in a getter done kind of mood. Master bath it is. 

This shouldn't take to long ! 

  Now I'm off to pack , let's see now what was that advice :

ON THE MOVE !!!

No good reason and several hundred reasons why it's been so long since my last post. 

A Recap since March to present day. !! twins !!

Yep we are proud grandparents of six the last two being twins. I was blessed to be able to help care for them as my daughter had to go back to work. My day had to be organized to the point of knowing what time it was by the cry I heard coming from the other room. Slowly our home turned into make shift nursey with each room dedicated to different activity. Eating was the kitchen with proper baby chairs and the right number of bottle, bibs,and spoons freshly wash by pap every night. The living room was a play room and time of adventure as the twins played ,bounced ,crawled , and occasionally napped Julia an I listened to Odessy tapes for hours ..even a picnic or two  in the living room on the blanket that covered most all carpet areas from baby burps.

If we where not listening to adventures we swam with one baby in tow at a time ; both got to swim with us if we had extra help.  We had a big out doors blanket Under the shade for nap time in the out of doors. 

Bed room was nap room and changeing room. TV room well that was a little of every thing,Some days as we got more perfected in the everyday routine..this went on all summer. When the kids went home we spent the evening getting ready to do it all over the next day. No two days where the same yet there was a comfortable routine....than August came well it started  in July but by august we where helping the kids and their folks move. No sooner did we get them settled in their new home and us back home our selves; we through a series of unrelated events are moving as well. I hope to blog about how I organize my self and my hubby to get all our stuff in to our newly built home. Oh and how we get my mother organized and moved in to that newly built home too. yep a new phase in my life.. Can't wait to see what God has In store. I'm sure I will need to keep it organized along the the way.

 is to sort your stuff in to piles what to Keep, pass on, throw away ...

Scarf over load

How many of you have several different scarf's ?  I do and I have to say I didn't wear them very often. Mainly because they where neatly folded up in the bottom of a drawer. I found a way to keep them neat, organized and easy to get to. 

I bought towel hooks, they are bigger so you can put several scarf 's on a hook. I have a few hooks so I can have the scarves organized. You can organzie by color or weight ( warm weather cold weather),or style. That is up to you an what fits your needs best.

You can place the hooks on the wall as decoration if you like to see your scarfs. You can place the hooks in your closet on the inside of the door or just in side the door on the wall. What works best for you is what will keep the scarfs organized..

SHARED SPACES II ( home office )

I share a desk at home with my husband. No big deal right ? Well we been married a while an I don't like to share my stuff . I've always looked at my desk as my space to do my thing ,create those big ideas,write that book about raising a family, pen a card or letter. May be crafts,well may be not so much crafts..I take up what ever space I need depending on the project at hand even the man space out in the garage. He shares his things well.  Good man !!

Oh and those all important bills need paid each month, work on the computer, long with sorting that mail,writing this blog. You get the idea. 

He on the other hand has a more basic use for the desk here at home,use the lap top which is mine when needed and any unexpected siting at a desk when he is away from his office.. 

Here is what it did to keep it the way I liked it an let my husband in to my space. You got it !

 I shared my things and no longer referred to them as mine but ours. I gave him space to put his reading glasses. 

An use of all the fun stuff on the desk.  He has to look at the way I decorate the space but he is not as attached so that's no big deal. Some times getting organized is a mind set. This sharing the desk worked because we both like to things back in there place. For the most part..

WHAT DOES THIS DOOR IN THE MIDDLE OF NO WHERE HAVE TO DO WITH VANENTINES DAY OR ORGANIAZION YOU SAY? THINK OF YOUR LOVED ONE TODAY  AND THINK OF ALL THE WAYS YOU CAN OPEN THE DOOR TO SHOWING THAT SPECIAL SOME ONE HOW MUCH YOU LOVE THEM BY GETTING ORGANIZED! 
 IT WILL BE EASIER TO FIND THAT CARD YOU BOUGHT  FOR THEMLAST WEEK  TOO, WHEN YOU GET ORGANIZED .
DONT LET YOUR STUFF BE LOST SOME WHERE BE HIND A CLOSED DOOR  TO NO WHERE!

SHARED SPACES

If you work in a shared space at work you need to think of the others you share the space with.

Here are some tips that might help keep the peace. If you bring some thing in to the space for all to share, let others know it is for that sharing with every one. If what you bring in is not really needed or does not seem to be getting used, ask the others if they are using it or if it's just taking up space? If it's the later take it home or pass it on to some one who wants it or get rid of it. You don't want things to pile up. So it's important not to bring In things from home just to get them out of your house. Most likely no one else will clean out the space you share because you are rhe one that brought the stuff in an you should be the one to clean it out. 

If you bring things in just for your use keep in some kind of container appropriate for the space.keep it nearer to you place, that way it's not out in the open and it is also not in the way. Leaving the common area free for others to use..
